Of Power, and of Love, and of a Sound Mind (2 Timothy 1:7)

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

God created us as new creatures in a new creation, where the old timid man has no place. Fear of anything but God does not come from Him.

We have power. Whatever the Lord has given us to do, He has given us the ability to do it. Would God command it if we couldn’t? Being born again and with the Holy Spirit, we can do those things, or rather, He can do these things through us.

We have love. God is love, and He works within us to love others. We have been called to a life of service. We love others, we have real care and compassion for them, and do not fear them, whoever they may be. We are more preoccupied with how to serve others rather than what they can do to us. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). God loves us, so we do not fear Him abandoning us either.

We have a sound mind. When we feel we are at our wit’s end, He preserves us through it. “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead” (2 Corinthians 1:9).
