A New Creature (Galatians 6:14-15)

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. (Galatians 6:14-15)

It is not about what I can do for God so that He will accept me. There is nothing I can offer. I was born a sinner and it was downhill from there. Everything I could offer Him would be spoiled; it would never be accepted.

Therefore, God must deal with the sinner. He must act on my behalf, or I have no hope. He does this by crucifying me with Christ and making me into something entirely new. This has been accomplished spiritually already and will be realized in full at the resurrection. I was ripped violently from the world system by the cross of Christ. By God’s grace I am saved and born again. I am dead in Him, and my life is now with Him (Colossians 3:3).

So why would I “glory”? What boasting is there? By what accomplishment does the Lord approve me? That is why I must say, “God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” There is nothing left but to thank God for His salvation in the Lord Jesus, because otherwise there is no hope for me.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
