These are the judges of Israel according to the books of Judges and 1 Samuel.

  1. Othniel son of Kenaz of the tribe of Judah delivered Israel from Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia, and there was rest 40 years (Judges 3:8-11).
  2. Ehud son of Gera of the tribe of Benjamin delivered Israel from Eglon king of Moab (Judges 3:12-20), and there was rest 80 years.
  3. Shamgar son of Anath delivered Israel from the Philistines (Judges 3:31; 5:6).
  4. Deborah wife of Lapidoth and Barak son of Abinoam delivered Israel from Jabin king of Canaan and his captain Sisera, and there was rest 40 years (Judges 4:1-24; 5:1-31). Jael wife of Heber the Kenite delivered defeated the captain Sisera (Judges 4:17-22; 5:6; 5:24-27).
  5. Gideon (Jerubbaal) son of Joash from the tribe of Manasseh delivered Israel from the Midianites (Judges 6:1-40; 7:1-25; 8:1-35), and there was rest for 40 years (Judges 8:28).
  6. Abimelech son of Jerubbaal (Gideon) from the tribe of Manasseh (Judges 9:1-57) was crowned king (Judges 9:6).
  7. Tola son of Puah from the tribe of Issachar judged Israel 23 years (Judges 10:1-2).
  8. Jair judged Israel 22 years (Judges 10:3-5).
  9. Jephthah son of Gilead judged Israel 6 years (Judges 12:7), and delivered Israel from the Ammonites (Judges 10:7-18; 11:1-40; 12:1-7).
  10. Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel for seven years (Judges 12:8-10).
  11. Elon from the tribe of Zebulun judged Israel 10 years (Judges 12:11-12).
  12. Abdon son of Hillel judged Israel eight years (Judges 12:13-15).
  13. Samson son of Manoah of the tribe of Dan judged Israel twenty years (Judges 13:1-25; 14:1-20; 15:1-20; 16:1-31).
  14. Eli the priest judged Israel 40 years.
  15. Samuel son of Elkanah the prophet judged Israel all the days of his life.
