No Condemnation in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1)

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)

Because we are in Jesus Christ, we no longer have any condemnation. This includes both hell and in this life. God’s wrath is past. This is because Jesus Christ was once condemned on the cross in time past. “God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh” (Romans 8:3). The abiding sinful nature within us was condemned by Him.

If you are in Christ, you do not walk after the flesh. This is not to be confused with the command to “Walk in the Spirit” in Galatians 5:16. The new man, created in Christ Jesus, is not of the flesh, but is born of God and patterned after our Lord. Because we walk after the Spirit, we must by faith walk in the Spirit.

Any “condemnation” we experience is self-inflicted. Our conscience is not clean because we have not remembered our Lord who bought us and gave Himself for us. We forgot our Advocate above and the Comforter within. Trust that we are crucified with Him, now being dead to sin and alive to God. Faith is where our position in Christ is realized in our experience.
