The LORD’s Prayer, Part 7: Thy Will Be Done

2024-09-07

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)

We all have our own plans, but they do not really matter. To be a part of God’s will is to submit to what He has for us, not for what we think is best. “For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that” (James 4:15).

The Lord Jesus Himself submitted to His Father’s will every time. “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done” (Matthew 26:42). How much more should we submit to His perfect will?

God the Father’s will is perfect. His will happens 100 percent of the time in heaven. On earth, there is sin and constant challenging of His will. However, we want what He wants down here on earth. “Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount” (Hebrews 8:5). Likewise, our position of justification in Christ in heaven should be manifest in our daily experience here on earth.
