The LORD’s Prayer, Part 6: Thy Kingdom Come

Thy kingdom come. (Matthew 6:10)
Are we “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13)? Or do we hope in this life and cringe at the thought of the Lord’s return? There will be those who look over their shoulder like Lot’s wife on that day, while others will try to hide in the caverns of the earth.
While there is a sense of the kingdom here among God’s people, the kingdom is not fully realized until our King is reigning here on earth. Until that day, we are commanded to watch, for He says, “And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch” (Mark 13:37). If our heart is right, we long for the Day. The kingdom is coming regardless of how we feel about it.
