Taking the Biblical Stand for Gender and Sexuality
2023-04-17
At the risk of creating a lightning rod for vociferous critics, I feel compelled to write about a subject that has been a bubbling controversy for some time. In many ways, what I write about are disparate issues. However, the more one considers these issues, they are a part of a slippery slope of steps that are enumerated in Romans 1:18-32. So here it goes: Taking the Biblical stand for gender and sexuality.
Biblically, gender and sex are the same, biological in nature, and designed and assigned by God. Marriage is between one man and one woman, negating any homosexuality. Here are previous posts I wrote on gender and sexuality for context.
- Homosexuality and the Bible
- Transgenderism and the Bible
- Jesus taught on both sexuality and gender
- Marriage represents Christ and the Church
I am a Christian. For the disciple of the Lord, there is a balance between telling the truth and loving others (cf. Ephesians 4:15). There comes a point where we need to decide to go along to get along because we do not want to hurt others or get yelled at, or whether we tell it like it is. We do not want to hurt people, but is it more hurtful just to go along with this and not tell them the truth?
Why write about it now? First, I read an article today entitled New UN-backed legal recommendations normalize sex with minors, outraged critics say, where a certain statement said, “Sexual conduct involving persons below the domestically prescribed minimum age of consent to sex may be consensual in fact, if not in law.” We also have been barraged with news stories talking about Drag Queen Story Hour for children, videos surfacing of drag queen performances for children, a transgender spokeswoman for Women’s History Month for a candy company and another for a booze company, biological men competing against women in sports, the bathroom and locker room controversy, children getting gender reassignment surgeries... I did not even realize how much we had seen until I started writing this list.
It is one thing for one to have their views on this, but it is another to expose children to these things mentioned and allow them to make life-altering decisions when we would not allow them to vote, go to war, drink booze, smoke cigarettes, etc.
When it comes to children, we should be very careful as to how we teach them and to what we expose them. “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6). And again, “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 18:10). This is the principal reason to bring this up now.
This does not mean that gay or transgendered people support child indoctrination and such things that were said in the United Nations statement. However, you should see a trend developing, which I will show you here. Also, one might argue the U.N. statement is taken out of context, or some other thing. However, from the Scriptures, we know there is a general trend in societies as they reject God (Romans 1:18-32):
- Rejection of the Creator in favor of deifying creation (Romans 1:18-23)
- God gives people up to sexual immorality (Romans 1:24-25)
- God gives people up to homosexuality (Romans 1:26-27)
- God gives people over to a reprobate mind (Romans 1:28-32)
This trend in America is undeniable. Try and tell me we have not seen this trend over the last half century or so. Transgenderism wasn’t a thing on most people’s radar 10 years ago. Then we saw that Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner, and in a few years, the idea is now being pushed upon us daily through the media.
The U.N. statement makes sense in the scheme of this. The idea is being floated today. We will be forced to accept it in the future. Go ahead and tell me I’m wrong. The year is 2023. In the future we’ll fish this post out and see how it turned out.
The ancient city of Sodom did not begin with the entire town surrounding Lot’s house so they could rape his visitors (Genesis 19:4-10). It started like this: “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy” (Ezekiel 16:49). It was a wealthy place that grew so rich that they had become lazy, they shunned the poor, and they were full of pride. This should sound familiar also.
Even if political and religious leaders, the media, the education system, Madison Avenue, Silicon Valley, and others in positions of power are not intentionally making conscious decisions to move us to a society where this new worldview is filling the minds of children everywhere, the spiritual forces behind them will make it happen. The trend shows we are going there.
This post is not for those who will accuse me of worshipping the “invisible sky daddy” and following “bronze age myth.” This is also not for me to be preaching to the choir. I primarily write to those who are confused on the issue or are in favor of the transgender and sexuality movement but have open minds. Think about this. America’s path is following the path of Romans 1:18-32, as discussed above. Everything to understand God’s view of this matter is clearly delineated right in front of us. I believe the downward trend is inevitable, but anything we can say or do to slow this down...
God is the Creator of all things. We have rebelled against Him. But “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). We must drop our own sinful agenda and seek Him while He may be found.
