Saved

Many people believe that a truly saved person can fall away from Christ, and go to hell. The Bible, however, tells us that God supernaturally did something to us to save us the hour we first believed, and gave us eternal life. This is something that is independent from our effort; God Himself orchestrated our salvation Himself unilaterally. Because Christ is the author of eternal salvation, we rest in Him that He has saved us, and there is no way to change it. Here are some of the things that God did for us the day we were first saved.

  1. Eternal/Everlasting Life. God gave us eternal life, and we have it now as believers (that is to say, present tense, and it will never end). John 3:36; 10:28, 29; 11:25, 26; Titus 1:2.
  2. Sons/Children of God. We became the children of God, and unlike our physical parents, we cannot change who our heavenly Father is. John 1:12, 13; Romans 8:15-17; 1 John 3:1.
  3. Born Again. We were born again. A new life began. John 3:3 ff.
  4. Born of the Incorruptible Seed. The Word of God is the seed that conceived us when we were born again. It is incorruptible. To say we lose our salvation is to blaspheme the Word of God. 1 Peter 1:23.
  5. Crucified with Christ. Christ did not just die for our sins; we also died the violent death of the cross with Christ. The old us is gone. Galatians 2:20; Romans 6 (see discussion here).
  6. Risen with Christ. Christ arose, but we also rose with Him spiritually, and will rise physically on the Day of Christ. Do you think it is possible to die again now? Colossians 3:1-3; Ephesians 2:1.
  7. Delivered from the Power of Darkness, into the Kingdom of the Son. We are no longer a part of the world system. We are in the Kingdom of God’s Son now. Colossians 1:13.
  8. Redeemed by the Blood of Jesus. It is the precious blood of Christ that redeemed us, nothing less. Colossians 1:14; Ephesians 1:7.
  9. Sealed by the Holy Spirit. Read more here. Ephesians 1:13, 14; John 14:26
  10. Christ’s Work in us until the Day of Christ. Does God ever give up on the good work He began? Philippians 1:6; Romans 8:29.
  11. Our Life Hid in Christ. There is already a reality of us in heaven, and we have not even died yet. Colossians 3:3; Ephesians 2:6; Romans 8:30.
  12. The Faith of Christ. We were given Christ’s faith. Ephesians 2:8, 9; Acts 13:48; Romans 3:22.
  13. We Are His Workmanship. Ephesians 2:10.
  14. New Creature. We are new creatures, and the old spiritual us is gone. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
  15. Reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18.
  16. Children of Abraham. This is not an ethnic designation; those of faith are children of Abraham. Once again, there is a family connection that cannot be dissolved. Galatians 3:29.
  17. Washed and Clean. 1 Corinthians 6:11; John 13:10; 15:3.
  18. Justified. If Christ declares us righteous, then who can argue with Him? Romans 5:1; 8:33.
  19. Christ Making Intercession. If Christ intercedes, who is going to intervene? Romans 8:34.
  20. Remission of Sins. Acts 10:43.
  21. Righteousness of God. Romans 3:21, 22.
  22. Not Drawing Back to Perdition. God may severely discipline His people, but that does not mean that we no longer are His. Hebrews 10:39.
  23. Saved. Notice the past tense. Ephesians 2:8; Acts 16:31.
