Innocent Blood

2018-02-17

Abortion, or child murder, is the evil of our age. The thing that makes it more Satanic than other evils is that you do not hear the screams and cries of the victims. This is the innocent blood that is shed in the United States and the vast majority or countries around the world. I have discussed the personhood of the unborn child elsewhere; here we will look at why infanticide, which this present evil world calls “abortion,” truly is the evil of our age.

The Phrase “Innocent Blood”

But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities: Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die. Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee. (Deuteronomy 19:11-13)

If someone intentionally killed another person in ancient Israel, innocent blood could only have been put away if the murderer was given the death penalty. The elders of the murderer’s city, who were the governmental authority, were to retrieve the murderer from the city of refuge and bring him back so that he could be put to death.

If someone was found dead, and the murderer was never found, the priests had to do a special sacrifice there, and calling to the Lord, saying, “Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge” (Deuteronomy 21:7-8). Only then could the shedding of innocent blood be forgiven: “And the blood shall be forgiven them. So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 21:8-9).

Notice how Israel was guilty of the innocent blood until they had done these things. Whole nations were guilty before God because of innocent blood (Jeremiah 26:15; Joel 3:19). If innocent blood is shed in our nation, we as a nation are guilty.

The Bible also tells us that “Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen” (Deuteronomy 27:25). There are people that get paid to slay innocent people. Those people are cursed by God according to the Bible.

Even the pagans in the Bible knew that shedding innocent blood was evil. The sailors who threw Jonah overboard (Jonah 1:14), Judas Iscariot (Matthew 27:4), and Pontius Pilate (Matthew 27:24) all were worried that God would condemn them for shedding innocent blood.

Mass Killing of Children in the Bible

There were a few cases of mass extermination of children in the Bible. First was Pharaoh king of Egypt.

And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: (16) And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. (17) But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. (18) And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? (19) And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. (20) Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. (21) And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses. (22) And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive. (Exodus 1:15-22)

This wicked king was afraid of the multiplying Hebrews, so he thought infanticide was the solution. We see, however, that Shiphrah and Puah’s defiance against such a wicked law actually led to God’s blessing upon them (Exodus 1:17, 20-21). If there is a law in any country that says one must perform child murder, the Christian must defy that law.

The other mass child murderer is Herod:

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. (14) When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: (15) And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. (16) Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. (17) Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, (18) In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. (Matthew 2:13-18)

Because the child king Jesus was born, Herod saw Him as a threat. He then sought to kill all children for the sake of Jesus. His power, position, wealth, and riches were more important than the lives of countless children.

People do that today. Because of their career and livelihood, countless children are destroyed. Because a child can interrupt your plans, you murder innocent blood so you can continue those sacred plans. Like Pharaoh and Herod, the one who commits child murder, be it a doctor, a nurse, or a “patient,” is guilty of murder before God.

Seed Passing Through the Fire

Child sacrifice was one of the rituals of Molech, the false god of Ammon.

And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. (Leviticus 18:21)
Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. (3) And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. (4) And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not: (5) Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people. (Leviticus 20:2-5)
  1. Child sacrifice was punishable by death. “His seed” refers to the person’s children. This false religion of Molech required sacrifices of their own children. Leviticus 20:2
  2. Child sacrifice unpunished led to God’s judgment upon the murderer. If the murderer went unpunished, then God made sure that the murderer was punished. Leviticus 20:3
  3. Child sacrifice defiles God’s sanctuary and profanes God’s name. The Lord cares about children, who bear the image of God (Genesis 1:26). They have angels that watch over them (Matthew 18:10). Murdering children is a vile offense to God. Leviticus 20:3
  4. The one who tries to conceal child murder will also be cut off by God. If we do not expose the wickedness in our society, God sets His face against us. Leviticus 20:4-5

King Manasseh

Manasseh son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, unlike his father, was a very wicked king. He abandoned worshipping the Lord, and worshipped all manner of false gods. Most notably, we read this:

Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD. (2 Kings 21:16)

He even killed his own children in sacrifice to his false gods:

And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. (2 Kings 21:6)
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. (2 Chronicles 33:6)

After all this king’s filthy acts, we find that the LORD breaks him, and brings about repentance in his life:

And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken. Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God. (2 Chronicles 33:10-13)
After Manasseh turned to God, God restored him to Jerusalem, and we even see later that he cleaned up a lot of the filthy images he worshipped (2 Chronicles 33:15-16).

Years later, his grandson Josiah son of Amon was on the throne. When he heard how Judah had sinned against the LORD, he led a great revival like never seen in the land. However, in all the great things that he did, we see that there was no hope for Judah as a nation:

And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him. Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manasseh had provoked him withal. (2 Kings 23:25-26)
Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did; And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon. (2 Kings 24:3-4)

All the repentance and reparations of Manasseh did not turn away the wrath of God on Judah. His grandson Josiah did away with all the remnant of false gods and false prophets in the land. But the Bible reads that all the innocent blood was the cause of Judah’s final demise, “which the LORD would not pardon” (2 Kings 24:4).

Now think of the United States, which in 1973 legalized child murder. Think of the millions that have been slaughtered: there is nothing you can do to save this country, or any of the countries, that endorse the murder of innocent blood. It is too late.

What Can We Do in a Culture of Death?

What can we do? As Christians, there are a few things that we must do.

  1. Expose abortion for what it is: child murder. Do not get sucked into the lies that this is women’s rights or their right to choose to shed innocent blood. It is about saving lives, exposing sin, doing the righteous thing, and sharing the Gospel of hope.
  2. Share the Gospel. Despite the filthiness of abortion, people can be saved by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ regardless of who they are. God might not save America, but He will save Americans if they believe on Christ.
  3. Do not place faith in politicians. The so-called pro-life movement should be called the pro-votes movement. These politicians string voters along, trying to make it look like that they are fixing this problem so that they stay in office. We know that they do nothing. Abortion is just as legal now as it was in 1973. Remember, it was the unelected nine of the Supreme Court that started this all. By decree and fiat, they allowed millions of deaths to occur. The politician will not help us, because this is spiritual battle, not political.
  4. Pray for our country. We do want to pray for people to be saved and turn from this wickedness. However, we also need to confess our sin as a nation.

What About the People Who Have Committed Child Murder?

We spoke a lot about child sacrifice here. Maybe you are one who has committed this atrocity, and you know that it was wrong. Understand that, long ago, there was one child sacrifice that was acceptable to God. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, without sin, to die on the cross for your sins and my sins. We are all guilty before God, and Jesus died for that sin that we have. He was buried, and three days later He rose from the dead. As severe as the sin of child sacrifice is, the grace of God is greater than all our sin. Simply trusting in Jesus Christ as your Savior will forgive you of every sin: past, present and future.

Not only that, but believing on Christ leads you into a brand new life filled with eternal purpose. As a saved person, you can live real life, turn from wicked sin, share your new hope with other people, and help others that have done the same wickedness in their own lives. Most importantly, after living a new life in Christ here, you will have eternal life in Heaven with our Lord.

If you hear this warning message, it is not too late for you to be saved if you turn to Christ and trust Him.
