God Was in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:19)

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)
We are new creatures in Christ because God created us anew in Jesus Christ. The Father made this great reconciliation to Himself through His Son. We were enemies of God. Now we are completely reconciled to Him. Our sin and trespasses are not imputed to us. All this was the work of God.
This is why we are responsible with this Word of Reconciliation, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, where the entire world can be reconciled through Him. There is a responsibility for us to be witnesses for Him, which we can do only in Christ.
