Charity, Part X: That Which Is Perfect (1 Corinthians 13:10)

2023-01-06

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. (1 Corinthians 13:10)

Because these spiritual gifts in various forms of communication can only go so far, they will not be needed when the Lord returns in the future at the resurrection. This is unlike charity: “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness” (Colossians 3:14).

We put undue emphasis and prestige on certain gifts, talents, and roles in the church. But all these things are merely different ways to edify the church. These gifts mentioned are put in perspective in this chapter; they will not be forever.

Gifts are tools to love others and point them to Jesus Christ. When He comes, we will see Him in person. Until then, let this be our mind:

“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12-14).
