Too Bad to Be Saved

Have you ever felt as though you were unworthy of God’s favor?

This world is full of many types of people. Some have had very difficult lives and have done great evil. As for me, I have felt the entire gamut, from self-righteousness to self-deprecation, and everything in between.

But one day, I was listening to preaching in my car on the way home from work, and I heard about Christ being tortured and dying for me. I have heard the story many times before and had been in the faith for years. But something struck me that day as if I heard the story for the first time. I called out to God, “Why would you do that???” Something about my total unworthiness struck me very hard.

We all come short of God’s standard of righteousness. That’s why we need the Savior.

Before His death, do you know who Jesus hung out with? He was called “a friend of publicans and sinners” (Matthew 11:19). He offered forgiveness to an adulteress caught in the act (John 8:1-11). The thief on the cross was forgiven and promised Paradise, even though his death was imminent, never to live a godly life in return. And never forget the murderer of Christians, Paul, who was saved gloriously. The chief sinner, as he called himself, became a servant of the Christ. These all saw their need of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Never think that it is too late for you.

Jesus, the Son of God, died on our behalf for our sins. He lives, and He is at the right hand of the Father now, to return someday.

Why does He tarry so? He is waiting for you to trust in Him.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
