There Was No Open Vision (1 Samuel 3:1)

And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. (1 Samuel 3:1)

When the Word of the Lord came to Samuel, it was scarcely heard. The days of the judges were filled with rebellion against the Lord; that was part of it. And surely, we have times where we feel God is silent.

However, we have a far greater advantage than them because we have the Word all the time. He may feel distant, but in Christ, “The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach” (Romans 10:8). The Lord never stops speaking when we have Jesus Christ and His Word; He “hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son.”

Let Him speak for Himself. Revere the Word and listen that we may be learned in the Scriptures, “in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction” (2 Peter 3:16).
