The LORD’s Prayer, Part 4: In Heaven
2024-09-04
Our Father which art in heaven... (Matthew 6:9)
Our Father is in heaven. He is far exalted above all. He is where our entire hope lies. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).
“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). We are dead to this world, and He is where our life is. We are with Him, though the body sojourns in this wasteland (Ephesians 2:6).
The risen Lord is there, seated and enthroned, high and lifted up. He is what makes heaven such a glorious place.
While “Our Father” signifies a close relationship, “which art in heaven” signifies a sovereign power that causes fear.
