The Kingdom

After the Centurion confesses Jesus to have authority over the elements of creation in Matthew 8, Jesus expresses a rather disconcerting thought. Many will come from the east and the west (i.e. Gentiles) to dine with the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but many “subjects” (i.e. Jews) would be cast out.

Today, the church (i.e. us) is often like the religious “in” crowd of those days. We confess Jesus as Lord like the Centurion, but often our actions betray us. What would our lives look like if we confess with our actions that Jesus is Lord over all creation? Whether we like it or not, God elected us as his ambassadors to the world that we may appeal to every creature and preach God’s grace and coming kingdom.
