As Long As You’re Sincere

There is a quote from Charles M. Schulz that goes like this: “It doesn’t matter what you believe just so long as you’re sincere.”

How wrong this is! It matters what you believe; it is not just about sincerity. Osama bin Laden was very sincere about his beliefs; he acted on those beliefs his entire life. How many members of cults sincerely believe their madness. There are a multitude of religions with opposing tenets that have sincere followers. Paul said of his Jewish contemporaries, “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge” (Romans 10:2).

Why do you believe what you believe? Is it based on subjective experience and feelings?

Faith in Jesus Christ is based on historical events. So many hundreds saw the Lord Jesus Christ alive. The news spread throughout the Roman world without violence and against much adversity. As Christians, we have a true anchor that holds.

Sincerity is important, but truth must be present also. Otherwise, you are sincerely wrong.

Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (1 Corinthians 5:8)
