But As for Me and My House, We Will Serve the LORD (Joshua 24:15)

The raising the next generation is of vital importance. Joshua made this promise:

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (Joshua 24:15)

What did his audience say that day? “God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods” (Joshua 24:16). But the walk and the talk did not match up:

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim (Judges 2:10-11)

Because people who knew the Lord did not teach their children properly, their entire country became exceedingly evil. Let this be a lesson. If Christian people do not raise their children up in the ways of Christ, they will repeat this history. Order your life around Christ and teaching Him to your children. Too late for you? Then focus on your grandchildren as you can. It is never too late for a fresh start.
