Ministry to Your Children

You might be wondering, how could I serve the Lord with my life? Maybe you are not called to fulltime ministry, but everyone, especially fathers, is called to the ministry of their own children. You may not have the teaching qualifications of a pastor, but if you are a Christian dad, you have the decree from the Lord to teach them the Bible.

Let me tell you what we do in our home. This is not anything fancy by any means. Each night during the week, we go through a booklet called The Story of Hope. Previously, we looked at a comic book-style summary of the Bible called The Action Bible. We also have gone through the children’s edition of New Tribes Mission’s Firm Foundations. These are good resources that all give highlights of the Bible chronologically to explain why Jesus Christ had to come to save us. It does not have to be any of these books. However, these are good introductions to the Bible. We do a small section of the book each night.

Since my children have memory verses to study, we also go over them during this evening Bible time, so they have additional practice with those.

In addition, we use a Christian homeschooling curriculum. Every day includes a Bible class that teaches Bible doctrine.

Lastly, at the barest of bare minimum, we attend a Bible believing church where they get exposure to the Bible.

If you are a Christian parent, you must make teaching the Bible a priority. If you don’t teach them the Bible, the world will teach them something else.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. (Proverbs 1:8-9)
