Kiss the Son (Psalm 2:12)
2023-11-14
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (Psalms 2:12)
Who is the Son that the nations should kiss? It is Jesus Christ. The other mention of Son in this psalm is here: “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee” (Psalms 2:7). This is quoted in Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5 and Hebrews 5:5; all referring to the risen Jesus.
This is in one sense eschatological, referring to the time when the nations will unite to fight the Lord at the end of the age. However, there is always a sense that any nation, group, or individual should recognize the kingship of the Son and worship Him at any time in this era. Whoever does not acknowledge the Son will incur wrath, but how blessed we are when we trust in Him.
