Thou Art My Son, This Day Have I Begotten Thee

The resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth affirmed many things of the Savior. For one thing, the resurrection affirmed that He is the Son of God. Jesus had always been the Son of God from eternity past (John 17:24) and was declared the Father’s Son at His baptism (Mark 1:11). Jesus Himself even said that God was His Father (John 10:36). However, His rising from the dead proved who He was:

God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. (Acts 13:33)

Jesus was “declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4). When raised from the dead, Jesus told His disciples, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18).

Moreover, this shows that Jesus is worthy to judge the world: “Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead” (Acts 17:31). “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof” (Revelation 5:5).

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is at once comforting and terrifying.
