I AM Statement #1: I Am the Bread of Life (John 6:35)

Recently, we saw how people followed Jesus across a sea to get free food. They were not really interested in Jesus Himself. However, to those people He said this:

I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35.

He alluded to the manna after the Exodus, comparing Himself to that miracle that sustained the people 40 years in the wilderness. There was a day when the manna stopped: “neither had the children of Israel manna any more” (Joshua 5:12). That generation of men died. With Jesus, He came once into the world that people would never die. Furthermore, unlike the bread of this world, He sustains us forever: “he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever” (John 6:58).
