Go Home to Thy Friends
2025-07-06
And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel. (Mark 5:18-20)
Some takeaways from a sermon this morning. This man who had the legion was changed in a dramatic, visible way by the Lord Jesus. Thousands of pigs died because of the vacating demons, delivering a man who was previously untamable. Many witnesses saw this, and they saw how the man was changed. The men of the area were begging Jesus to leave just as much as the legion was begging Jesus to give them leave.
The people did not want Jesus, so He left. However, He left this man, who wanted to follow Him, as a sign to the people that lived throughout Decapolis. This man became a preacher, causing many to marvel at his change. This man followed Jesus better this way than if he were to physically follow Him.
