Mine Own Familiar Friend (Psalm 41:9)

Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. (Psalm 41:9)
Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. (Psalm 69:25)
Let his days be few; and let another take his office. (Psalm 109:8)

The Lord Himself said the first Scripture was fulfilled by Judas Iscariot in John 13:18. The other Scriptures are referenced in Acts 1:20. These latter verses were likely used as Scriptural wisdom on how to handle Judas’ vacancy in the apostleship.

Nonetheless, the pattern of David is once again confirmed in Jesus’ life. One closest to Jesus negotiated with the religious leaders to put Him to death. If you have ever felt betrayal by someone whom you trusted, you know it cuts like a knife within you. How much worse was it for our Lord, who was put through excruciating pain because of this man.

See how Judas considered it nothing to betray His master and friend:

And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. (Matthew 26:49-50)
