Betrayest Thou the Son of Man with a Kiss? (Luke 22:48)

But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? (Luke 22:48)

Judas knew what He was doing when He betrayed the Master. It was obvious that He was on the enemy’s side when he kissed Him. Could it be that much that looks like acts of service to the Lord is really done for the enemy? Could it be that much pious activity is fraudulent? Saul of Tarsus thought all that he did for his religion was service to God. “They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service” (John 16:2).

Not everything that names the name of Christ is a servant of Christ. This admonition is not for Gethsemane alone: “Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation” (Luke 22:46).

Adonijah made himself king when he clearly went against David’s wishes to make Solomon king. Former servants of David were there celebrating this self-appointed king. It will happen again when a fraud precedes the coming of the true King. “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition” (2 Thessalonians 2:3). Know the Lord. Know yourself. Know the times.
