Easy Believism

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (John 4:13-14)
Believing on Jesus to salvation is easy. Verses like this compare salvation to drinking water. Not only do you drink only once, but His water keeps hydrating you forever! The difficult part was completed by Jesus Himself, because He went through tremendous torture and spiritual assault on the cross. However, we have verses like this:
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14)
This verse is not because it is difficult to be saved. It is because people make salvation difficult. People want their self-righteousness apart from Christ. All the religions in the world circumvent Christ and teach good works to be saved. Sometimes it is hard for people because they have been told that salvation is by some other way than by faith in Jesus. Because people are depraved and separated relationally from God, it is impossible to save ourselves:
And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible (Mark 10:26-27).
The burden is on God to save us. It is His work through His Son Jesus Christ. It is as easy as looking at something:
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:14-15).
If salvation is hard, give up. We will never make it. Praise God, He made it easy, because Jesus did the hard part!
