Saying #6: It is finished (John 19:30)

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. (John 19:30)

What is finished? Our sin debt was paid in full, once for all, by Jesus Christ. Consequently, sacrifice was also finished. “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin” (Hebrews 10:17-18). The burden of guilt we carry evaporates the hour we believe. On His shoulders were laid the sins of the world, even of those who were not even born yet. The religions of the world say “Do” and you will be saved, maybe. But Christ says “Done.” Thank Him that all your sins have been paid for, forever. Your debt has been paid.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:13-15)
