An Ark of Bulrushes (Exodus 2:3)

2023-02-21

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink. (Exodus 2:3)

Just like the ark of Noah was salvation to the eight during the flood, an ark was salvation to the infant Moses when he was placed in the waters. All the male children were condemned to the water according to the king’s commandment, but this one was drawn out of the water, like Noah, and saved from death. Moreover, this man was also one who would lead the people to the border of the promised land.

This prefigures the Lord, who would carry us through the judgment of God on a sinful world; He has safely carried us through and drew us out of judgment.
