There Is Another King, One Jesus

...these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. (Acts 17:7)

There are two rival kingdoms of this world: It is Caesar’s versus Christ’s. We are in this world, but we seek another kingdom that was not established by any man. We may expose the sins of the rulers of this world, but we should never be surprised that they pay no attention to what we say. They may even try to fight against our King and His people.

If we belong to Christ, we are strangers and pilgrims here. We are emissaries of the King of kings, but we ultimately confess that the kingdom we represent is a rival kingdom in many ways. We come in peace.

There is no political faction on earth that can truly represent us. All the political factions “were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ” (Acts 4:26). “And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves” (Luke 23:12). The world’s kingdoms, whether ally or enemy, will become friends on that day when Christ descends from the sky and they prepare to fight against Him.

No Christian would ever dare say, “We have no king but Caesar” (John 19:15).

There is no hope in the kingdoms of the world. We are mere foreign ambassadors to this land, extending the amnesty of our King to the world. This King, Jesus Christ, has offered this amnesty to all. Anyone who believes on Him shall be saved:

Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
