Your Election of God (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5)

Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5)

How did the election of God happen? The preaching of the Gospel. This preaching is not mere words; true Gospel preaching is accompanied by the power of the Holy Spirit.

If the power of God is what brings us to salvation, there is no question that it is sure: It is in much assurance.

This inevitably leads us to have more confidence and faith that it was the Lord who saved us, and not we ourselves. Every time we look inward, by either trying to measure “fruit” or to find true faith, we will always lose that assurance. But if our salvation falls squarely on the Lord only, we have confidence, knowing that only He can save and there is nothing within us that can help. Then the real fruit of His working will be seen by the world.
