Miraculously Woven Together
2023-10-21
The Word of God is divinely inspired and inerrant and the more you read it, you will find out how true this is. There are so many small pieces that weave together this masterpiece, and it all points to Jesus Christ. It is no wonder:
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (Galatians 3:2)
If there is anything I can encourage you with today is for you to be in awe of the Word of God and how miraculously woven together it is. Consider the definition of the Gospel:
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
I want to point out one small detail. “...he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” We know the Scriptures foretold the Lord’s resurrection like in Psalm 16 and Isaiah 53:12. Where does it speak of the third day?
The Lord Himself tells of one such place. “But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:39-40).
What else is significant? Because Jonah was recovered from the whale, where he would have most certainly died, we read “And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?” (Jonah 4:11). Because Jonah rose from the depths of the whale, 120,000 people were saved from death through his preaching. Three days death sentence, and on the third day Jonah was saved and others were saved because of it.
This event does not stand alone:
- God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac. He waited for this son his whole life. At age 100, he finally gets one, and God told him to sacrifice him. He took him to the land of Moriah. He got there on the third day. The ram died instead of Isaac. Because Isaac was saved from the knife, the entire race of Jews, God’s people, were born, including our Lord. Three days death sentence, and on the third day Isaac was saved and God’s nation was born because of it (Genesis 22:4).
- The chief butler of Pharaoh was imprisoned, he received his dream interpretation from Joseph, and on the third day, he was restored. Because he was restored, Joseph was later freed and saved the entire Near East during the famine because of his planning. Three days imprisonment, and on the third day the butler was saved, and the Near East was ultimately saved (Genesis 40:20).
- Queen Esther fasted three days and nights before going to the king uninvited. This was a capital offense unless the king would extend his scepter. She went to the king on the third day, and he was gracious to extend his scepter. She was then able to organize a series of banquet meetings where she could tell of the fate of her people. They set up a plan to save the Jews and they were delivered. Three days death sentence, and on the third day Esther was spared by the king and the Jews were eventually delivered because of her deliverance (Esther 5:1-2).
There are other examples, but how much more since Jesus Christ truly died and was buried, and on the third day, rose from the dead. And because He rose, we have the hope of eternal life in Him. These examples are all patterns for what the Lord would do.
Realize each time you read how precious the Word of God is, and how miraculously woven together it is, even the smallest of details, all pointing us to our Lord Jesus Christ.
