The Works of God Should Be Made Manifest in Him (John 9:3)

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:2-3)

A common mistake is to assume that someone who has had awful things happen to them is because of their own sin. The disciples assumed that this blind man or his parents had sinned to cause his blindness.

The Pharisees also made the same assumption: “Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out” (John 9:34). How did these men not know the story of Job?

Recently, famous composer and voice actor Ron “Patch the Pirate” Hamilton passed away. He entertained and instructed children in the ways of the Lord through his music and audio performances. He had lost his eye as a young man because of cancer. He took what many would have called a curse and turned it into a great blessing. He had to wear an eye patch, and children began to call him “Patch the Pirate.” Ron took the idea and created a character called “Patch the Pirate.” The rest is history as Patch the Pirate stories shared the truth of the Gospel to millions in over 40 years. He took a hardship and made it a great blessing to others.

God takes those hardships and turns them into opportunities.
