I Beheld the Earth, and, Lo, It Was Without Form, and Void

I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. (Jeremiah 4:23-27)
The destruction of Jerusalem is likened to the reverse of creation. The LORD starts with using the same phrase in Genesis 1:2, “without form, and void.” There was no light. Even the wildlife had fled. What the LORD had made fruitful had been undone.
For God to make things new, He often had to start over. Just like the waters wiped away everything from the face of the earth during the Flood and He created a new world, likewise He will destroy the current world by fire and make an entirely new heaven and earth.
But there is a Spiritual application as well. We also need to be made new. We also were done away by the cross of the Lord and have a new beginning in Him. We are new Creations in Christ. Moreover, this body which came from the bowels of Adam also will be put away in the future and we shall be made unto His glorious body.
Everything that is to be redeemed of the LORD must be first broken, crushed, and slain before it can be made new and used by Him.
