But Whom Say Ye That I Am? (Matthew 16:15)

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 16:15-17)

But Jesus first asked what others were saying about who He was. Most said He was one of the prophets. But that was a shortsighted worldly answer. Surely there was some power from God on Jesus’ life. It was undeniable. But to go all the way and truly identify Jesus’ messiahship and deity was not the common response to the Lord. In fact, the Father reveals the Son for who He is.

On our part, we must seek Him, and keep seeking until He is revealed to us. By “revealed” I mean knowing the truth about Christ beyond an intellectual and academic way. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7). This is not all about being saved only. To see the Lord in any matter we must seek Him.
