Where There Is Light, There Are Bugs

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. (Jude 1:12-13)
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. (Acts 20:30-31)

I heard this as a sermon illustration once: Where there is light, there are bugs. Bugs are drawn to light. This is a Biblical principle. The forces of darkness come to light because they want to destroy. In Jude 1:12-13, we see false prophets trying to spoil church gatherings. In Acts 20:30-31, we see people within the church want disciples after themselves. Unregenerate people see opportunity to take advantage of others in churches. Such people harming innocent children in churches are other examples these filthy bugs harming the innocent.

What do we do with this knowledge? “Therefore watch.” Know that there will always be evil forces that seek to spoil what is good, and we must act before they do.
