What Is His Son’s Name, If Thou Canst Tell? (Proverbs 30:4)

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell? (Proverbs 30:4)
Agur was the human author of this chapter of Proverbs, and we do not know much about him. He was humble about his knowledge: “Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy” (Proverbs 30:2-3). He acknowledges his lack of knowledge because he is not God, as he pens these words from the Holy Spirit.
Here, God has ascended and descended to heaven, has power of the wind and the seas, and established the coastlines. Moreover, he tells us that God the Father has a Son. “...what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?” We are blessed to know in these times that His Son’s name is Jesus, and He played an instrumental role in creating the world. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3).
