What God Is Interested In

Sometimes we need to stop in our tracks and think about what God is really interested in. We often think we know what God wants of His people. We put on great shows. For centuries, people thought great structures with flying buttresses did the trick. Perhaps now, we think of seminary education, big ministries, and even perhaps missions are things that God is interested in. Don’t get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with some of these in themselves, especially since Jesus commanded the Great Commission before He left Earth. But these are not the things that God is interested in.

God is interested in the heart: “The LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” It is not the appearance that is important, because God looks behind the gaudy disguise and sees the horror behind it all. He wants us to know Him. God delighted in the most obscure people in history because they knew Him as He is, and wanted to know Him. This is the amazing thing about God: He loves us for who we are, not for what we do or what appearance we decide to clothe ourselves with today.
