We wrestle not against flesh and blood

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)

It is these spirit beings that tirelessly fight against us. They keep us from finding the rest and source of strength in the Savior. We need to realize that these things are alive and well and are the real foe in our daily battles. With the real battle being in the mind, they will take the mind that is not surrendered to the cross of Christ, abiding in the Lord’s death. They want us to find strength in anything other than Christ.

But we have been crucified to these as well, for it is written, “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:14-15).
