Using Your Talents to Make a Positive Impact

It seems that people want to make a lasting, positive impact. It is true for the career and workplace as well.

For me, it matters where I work. The work we do on our team has the potential to save lives. This thought is far superior to the thought of financial reward, though that is important. What do you do to improve other people’s lives? This is an important thing to ponder.

When I transitioned from the prospect of fulltime Christian ministry to become a software developer, I thought I would lose a lot of that potential impact. Some of that sentiment is quite selfish in nature. However, such loss of impact does not need to be the case. You serve the Lord in whatever place you are at the time, whatever that may be.

Moreover, with whatever skills you have, invest them in the Lord and in other people. In my personal life, I took the software concepts I learned in school and in the workforce and combined them with the knowledge from Bible reading and study, Bible college, missionary training, church services and other experiences. The result was irruptiondays.org, a website to proclaim anything related to the Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ. I concluded that if Jesus Christ died for the sins of humankind and rose again, why not use anything I have to proclaim this Savior to the world? For He said, “What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops” (Matthew 10:27).

In short, I guess whatever letdown you had in the past, do not let it stop you from making a positive impact in the here and now, whatever you may be doing.
