No New Thing Under the Sun

2021-11-23

Life seems to continue, day after day. Nothing ever seems to be different. Behind the technological façade of today, the problems from ancient times are the same: Pain, suffering, death. The reality is that life will ultimately end. What’s the point of it all?

Solomon was a wise king that said, “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us” (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10).

There is a key phrase here, though, and it means the difference between light and darkness, heaven and hell, hope and hopelessness. If the phrase were missing, the statement would be tragically different.

“...under the sun.”

Because there is something and someone beyond the sun in the highest of heaven. The Lord tells us, “Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God (Revelation 21:10).

There is something entirely new awaiting for us. It is available for all. You were purchased with the blood of the Son of God. He is alive and reigning from heaven, and His kingdom and power are from beyond the sun.
