The Truth Shall Make You Free (John 8:31-32)

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32)
As Jesus was preaching one day, many people believed and were saved. Our Lord gives us the next step: continue to believe in Him. A true disciple continues to believe in Him. The result? “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
What truth? “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). By implication, everything the world offers us is falsehood. A lot of unlearning must take place. Most of the people with power in our society preach lies constantly to take us away from the truth. We even tell ourselves lies. Continuing in the truth of Christ and His word takes us away from the lies.
Be free from what? Well, Jesus told the scoffers in the crowd, who falsely claimed they were never slaves of any kind: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin” (John 8:34). Everyone is a servant of sin. But what happens as we continue to believe in the Lord? We become freer. In many ways, you may even feel like you are going backwards, like I do. We become more sensitive to sin. But in this, we realize we need Him more and rely on Him more.
Let us keep walking with Jesus and let us embrace His liberty.
