Treasure Hid in a Field (Matthew 13:44)

I always enjoyed stories of hidden treasure when I was younger. There is a treasure that is greater than all others, and that is found in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. (Matthew 13:44)

Remember that the kingdom of heaven implies the King, because there is no kingdom without a king. This kingdom with its King is a treasure hidden. You cannot go to an atlas or globe and find “kingdom of heaven” anywhere. It is a kingdom yet to be present on the earth. The good news involves the great King that will return and restore the world to what it was in the days of Eden.

If one finds this great treasure, he wants to secure that it is his. He realizes its worth and turns all his attention and resources to it. The joy of salvation completely changes his life’s direction.
