How Precious Also Are Thy Thoughts Unto Me (Psalms 139:17-18)

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. (Psalms 139:17-18)

After much reflection on how the Lord was intimately involved with the psalmist’s creation and His omnipresence, David contemplated God’s thoughts toward him. There are two things here: God’s thoughts are positive toward His people, and those thoughts are numerous. Consider that the Lord can do this for every individual in a multitude simultaneously. This is based on His loyal covenantal love toward His people.

If the Lord showed intimate care in the development of His people, how will He then think evil of them? If He cared so much of David in the flesh, how much would He care for those born again in Christ? “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). We will always be with Him. “...when I awake, I am still with thee.”
