The Thoughts of the Wise (Psalm 94:11; 1 Corinthians 3:20)

And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. (1 Corinthians 3:20)
The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. (Psalm 94:11)

Written after a quotation from Eliphaz, a psalmist is quoted concerning the wise. This is much like what James said about wisdom from above versus earthly wisdom. The apostle showed the dichotomy between these two types. I cannot be wise in both these worlds. If I receive the above wisdom, then I become a fool here. This world’s wisdom causes division and strife. The wisdom from above dares not say that one is of the faction of Paul or Apollos. It does not glory in men. No wonder Paul wrote the following twice to the Corinthians: “He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:31; 2 Corinthians 10:17; cf. Jeremiah 9:23-24).So we do not glory in men, whether it be ourselves or others. We only glory in the Lord, for all good things are from Him.
