Though He Slay Me, Yet Will I Trust in Him (Job 13:15)

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him. (Job 13:15-16)

Job recognized that his predicaments came from God, and they did so indirectly. The LORD brought Job low, and though this man from the land of Uz had a lot of questions, he recognized that he had no choice but to trust in Him. He also rightly recognized that even though God had brought him low, God would also be his Savior from it all.

Herein is much truth for us, in that we may be brought low in this life, these things are done for us to trust Him more. They will produce more of Christ in us. In Christ, “we have been planted together in the likeness of his death.” This is the truth of our being in Christ, but this will have its working out in our lives. And because we are His, we will trust Him more, and His life will be shown more in us as well. “He also shall be my salvation” and “we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.”

Do not think that somehow that trusting in Christ more and sharing more in His sufferings and life with establish our own righteousness. No, the only righteousness that we will ever have is His. The loss of hope in this life tantamount to Job’s losses precedes newness of life.
