They Glorified God in Me (Galatians 1:24)

But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. And they glorified God in me. (Galatians 1:23-24)

The apostle Paul killed and arrested Christians and did much against the cause of Jesus of Nazareth. It was beautiful when the Lord turned him around on the road to Damascus.

Likewise I, who was not a Christian and did many things against the Lord, was turned around by the Lord. I came with a lot of baggage, but the Lord is sovereign, and continually works in my life by the day. There is somebody else who needs such a turnaround.

I tried and I worked and I labored to make life work, even as a Christian. I tried to make myself the most comfortable life so that I could coast through. It turns out that not only is this something not to labor for, but it has also been extremely harmful. Who has “glorified God in me”? Nobody. What should I labor for, then? I now labor to enter into His rest, knowing that I am dead with Jesus, dead to sin, dead to the world, and everything is made new. Knowing this makes the difference. It is over. We have died and that’s all over now. New life in the power of His resurrection is mine, and it is yours. Then they can glorify God in me.
