The Obedience of One (Romans 5:19)
2024-03-05
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (Romans 5:19)
Yesterday, we saw how that because Adam sinned, his disobedience was transferred downstream to everyone born from him. Well, it works the exact same way in Christ. When you’re born again, you are born into a new family, and the head of that family is Christ. You were given the obedience and righteousness from that Head, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Just as you had literal history in Adam, you, if you are a Christian, have a literal history in Jesus Christ. You were in Him when He was crucified, when He was buried, when He arose, when He ascended, and when He was enthroned in heaven.
Don’t believe me? Consider this: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
Everything about this is literally true, not just some metaphor.
