The LORD Is My Strength and Song

2024-04-08

The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. (Exodus 15:2)
The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. (Psalm 118:14)
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. (Isaiah 12:2)

The Lord Jesus doesn’t just give us salvation; He is salvation. Salvation and all that accompanies it is found in a Person, Jesus Christ.

He is our strength because we have no strength. “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). He carried us out of the kingdom of darkness and placed us into His kingdom. The quote from Exodus shows that Moses knew Him as his strength, having been saved from the Egyptians at the Red Sea.

He is our song because He is the cause of all our joy. He is our sanctuary and peace and every source of mirth.

He is become our salvation because not only did He very certainly save us from the wrath of the lake of fire, but He also saves us daily from sin and the traps of the devil. We trust Him and do not fear, because He is the fortress in which we dwell. “And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer” (2 Samuel 22:2).

I cannot think of salvation and joy and peace and every other good thing as something that is distinct from our Lord. He is all those things.
