The LORD God is My Strength (Habakkuk 3:19)

Habakkuk, anticipating the coming destruction of the Lord by the Chaldeans, and then the destruction of them, shows his steadfastness in the Lord. He knew things would get bad: “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls” (Habakkuk 3:17).
All food sources were cut off. But what? “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments” (Habakkuk 3:18-19). The prophet wrote this as a praise song the temple singers would sing. Habakkuk recognized that his sustenance did not come from this world’s good. The LORD was his strength.
Our next breath is dictated by God. Our ability to function in any way comes from Him. We not only must recognize that, but act accordingly, waiting on the Lord for the strength for the next task assigned to us.
