He Will Swallow Up Death in Victory (Isaiah 25:8-9)
2022-07-04
The future resurrection at the return of Christ will bring about great happiness like never seen before:
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. (Isaiah 25:8)
There will be no more tears. The pain that was known in life will be forever gone. Those alive on that resurrection day will see their salvation from God’s coming indignation:
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. (Isaiah 25:9)
This order of resurrection and gathering is seen again in Isaiah 26:19-21.
When Isaiah 25:8 is quoted in 1 Corinthians 15:54, we see this same order again: “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52).
All of this is consistent with 1 Thessalonians 4:15: “For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.”
In whatever state we are in that glorious day, the Lord will not forget us.
