A Spectacle unto the World (1 Corinthians 4:9)

For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. (1 Corinthians 4:9)

This is written of apostles, who had the power of the Spirit, even so that they healed others. Even so, they were “made a spectacle unto the world.” They were “fools for Christ’s sake” (1 Corinthians 4:10). They were like a theater, an entertainment venue, and a laughingstock. This is a part of the Christian life. There is humiliation with Christ. If I think that the cross of Christ would be a happy experience, I am mistaken. It is painful and shameful. I come without the camp where Christ is. This is where we need to be.
